New release from [sic] available exclusively on DTO!
[sic] aka Dan Jeffries has been writing
electronic music for over 15 years, working in old skool, drum and bass, electronica and, now, minimal techno and tech-house.
The last couple of years have seen some big changes in [sic]'s life and a new change in direction was needed. The emergence of minimal techno and tech-house took [sic] back to the days of mid-90s US house with it's bleepy synths and shuffling beats and this opened up the new direction he was seeking.
The [sic] approach is to keep it minimal - but 'party' minimal. Expect sparse sounds and chewy basslines married with swinging drum patterns, glitchy fx and cheeky, catchy melodies.
Datum EP
Datum and 'Zsa Zsa' herald the arrival of [sic] to the minimal techno scene with two intense, dance-floor smashers.
Datum is the stand out tune of the EP, with it's progressive intro leading you into a dark, unexpected place. Just as you think you know where it's going, the intro gives way to a mosterously dark bassline and, when those dark chimes come in, you know you're in for a journey. Sweeping synths, glitchy beats and layered percussion make this an essential track for any dance floor, as tested by Stu Wilkinson, Justing Gettings and more.
Zsa Zsa has an overall bouncier feel but is no less powerful. The falling synths in the intro build up the listener to another impressive bassline (should minimal techno have such juicy bass?!), accompanied by reverb percussive hits and odd vocal glitches. The track progresses to intense yet catchy bleep-driven melodies and further vocal trickery. This is a strong dance-floor tune with a mature and sophisticated vibe, but never forgetting the dance floor.
