On record, the music is based around the talents of MC Longusto and DJ Weaver, long time partners and stalwarts of rap and electronica in the UK’s underground scenes. The Weaver is a drum n bass producer of ten years experience and a man with an unquestionable ear for excellence in electronic music. Credited with releases on Flex, Rinse Out and Hardleaders, he has several classic tracks to his name including Freaks 2000 and Satellites. He has co-run the Lab Logic record label with brother Stomp for several years, output from which has been aired on Radio One’s In The Jungle and Jon Peel and spun by every drum n bass stalwart worth naming. This love of chunky beats and live or ambient based hooks gives the Swampfoot output an unmistakable flavour which transcends the usually staid and overused standards of bo
th UK and US rap music.
Longusto is one of the best and brightest MC’s in Britain. Combining individualistic delivery and introspective or party style lyrics, his rhymes are an instant winner with hip hop heads and more conventionally minded listeners alike, and have earned him accolades from some of the most respected names in the UK’s rapbusiness.
The final piece in the puzzle was securing the services of local musician James (Mani) Mann, who helped fuse some of his rock/funk elements into the Swampfoot sound. With this backbone in place, the self released ‘Education’ EP has been receiving critical acclaim on the underground press circuit for the last year, with reviews and props from a variety of sources including fanzines and legendary artists.
“I had to replay Education as soon as I finished listening to it, just to make sure my ears weren't deceiving me, but sure enough Swampfoot have created one of the greatest hip-hop rock crossovers ever recorded. Swampfoot have delivered the best hip-hop release I've heard in a long time, if you like hip-hop you will simply love this CD and even if you don't, Swampfoot may be the group to change your mind,” Will Munn, Rhythm and Booze
“I've owned quite a few of Weavers previous drum n bass releases, it's good to see he’s just as capable when he turns his hand to hip hop production. The first track is cool, a good party tune with incredibly funky guitars, crisp beats and good vocals. Had my head nodding the whole way through. The guitar lick sounds cool on the second track too, with more poignant lyrics, and the Pink Floyd chorus made me smile. I enjoyed the third track too, a more laid-back vibe but still with hard hitting beats and strong vocals,”. Darren Jones, Music Reviews Editor, Knowledge Magazine
“Rap-funk act with tons of style and finesse…Good hooks, lyrics and delivery are backed with Huggy Bear wah-wah's and live sounding drums. It's all good, and this is why Swampfoot rock every club they booked for! 'Education' utilises Pink Floyd's classic song to massive effect, and is a sure-fire winner for radio dj's. This is big man, go support this!” RAGO Magazine
“Swampfoot have managed to deliver a great record that encapsulates a refreshing and unique individual flava which is indefinably their own. With their own unique sound, and obviously long term commitment to hip hop, having spent several years on the underground circuit, let’s hope that good things are heading Swampfoot’s way, and they survive the pitfalls of trying to make it in the UK hip hop industry. Go out and get it, it’s a gem!” Rapnews.co.uk
“‘Seen to be Believed’ is a funky number with lyrics that are more intelligent than your average UK hip hop tune…The title track ‘Education’ takes a verse from the Pink Floyd classic ‘Another Brick in the Wall’…As an underground hip hop track this is definitely an effort that would rival most of what the rest of the country has to offer. Complete with keys, scratches and acoustic riffs, the final track ‘Right of Way’ increases the quality of the package further, with continued consistency of lyrics. A short, but worthy EP,” UK Hip Hop.com
“…hard hittin’ lyrics full of confidence but without aggression…there’s a nice tone to it that somehow makes you feel good. Even the non hip hop lovers got into this one and filled the dance floor,”Live Review on Caughtinthecrossfire.com
Lyrics are deep with some conscious wordplay going on”. Farma G, Taskforce. Lowlife records artist, and stalwarts of the UK hip hop scene.
“These guys are heavy; wicked live show backed up by beats like I’ve never heard before,”. Blade. Legendary UK hip hop MC.
“…totally feeling it, good to see a DJ cutting on a track again and a bit of beatboxing, top stuff! Will get rotation for sure!” Eastborn, RadioMagnetic.com
